Position Description

As a member of the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) Group, you will work as part of a highly motivated and collaborative engineering team in support of the Warfighter.   This position is in the Visual and Sensor Simulation Branch of the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Advanced Simulation Division.   The position will provide highly specialized technical support and consultation services to training system research and development and acquisition programs in matters relating to training and simulation technology, especially real-time visual and sensor simulation.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert in training system design and development with a focus on visual and sensor system simulation.
  • Provide technical oversight of visual simulation technology development in assigned Army, Navy, and USMC research, development and acquisition of training systems.
  • Serve as a visual/sensor simulation engineer performing engineering analysis and planning, requirements analysis, preliminary design, design evaluation, design review, and testing of visual and sensor image generation systems, display systems, and synthetic environments in military training systems.
  • Evaluate trending and future system capabilities/technology needed to develop military training systems, including display systems, image generations systems, and synthetic environment development.
  • Evaluate contractor detailed designs for compliance with technical requirements.
  • Provide technically sound advice and guidance to managers, supervisors, peers, and sponsors on specific technical aspects of visual and sensor training systems or concept development.
  • Prepare and review engineering specifications and related technical/test documentation for visual/sensor simulation systems.
  • Communicate all aspects of visual/sensor programs/requirements to team members.
  • Provide technical risk management support.
  • Demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills.
 

Additional Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the following Basic Education Requirements of the Department of Defense Qualification Standard for Engineer/Scientist Positions:
    • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study (Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science) or specific course requirements generally as stated in paragraph A in the individual occupational requirements OPM qualification standard AND

 

  • A minimum of 1 year of Specialized Experience in the area of researching and applying visual/sensor engineering technologies (display systems, image generation systems, and synthetic environment development) to simulation systems. Specialized Experience is experience that equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

 

  • This position is under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Systems Planning, Research and Development Engineering Career Field - Level 2 is required. If you are not certified, you must achieve certification within 24 months of appointment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. 
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Travel is required for this position.
