Position Description

As a member of the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) Group, you will work as part of a highly motivated and collaborative engineering team in support of the Warfighter.   This position will provide systems engineering support for several USMC Training programs.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

  • You will perform engineering systems functions related to training systems acquisition, development, and operational support. This includes: concept formulation (analyze customer performance requirements, develop conceptual design approaches and technical cost & schedule estimates, market research); contract definition (prepare acquisition package documents, proposal evaluation and source selection; contract technical management (monitor contractor progress, conduct design reviews, technical member of Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)); in-house design and development; test and acceptance (process of testing, delivery and installation of training system).
  • You will have full technical responsibility for assigned projects; will operate as a team member under the guidance of a Lead Systems Engineer who oversees and directs technical activities or act as a technical IPT lead on training system acquisitions.
  • You will identify, document, and communicate engineering staffing requirements, risks, and technical impacts to cost, schedule and performance to program and competency personnel.
  • You will collaborate with other team members to work on varied, complex equipment systems and subsystems associated with research, innovation, or reengineering assignments and demonstrate competence and creativity in developing new concepts and possible new uses of hardware/software.
  • You will provide technically sound advice and guidance to managers, supervisors, peers, and sponsors on specific technical aspects of training systems or concept development.
 
  • Applicants must meet the following Basic Education Requirements of the Department of Defense Qualification Standard for Engineer/Scientist Positions:
    • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements generally as stated in paragraph A in the individual occupational requirements OPM qualification standard AND
  • 1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least GS-11/12 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer/scientist. Specialized Experience is experience that equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
  • This position is under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Engineering Career Field - Level II is required. If you are not certified, you must achieve certification within 24 months of appointment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security secret clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
