Position Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY MATERIALS ENGINEER in the MAINTENANCE, REPAIR & OVERHAUL ENGINEERING GROUP AND MATERIALS ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This position is located in San Diego, California.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

  • You will act as a subject expert in the specialty areas of, but not limited to, metals and ceramics, non-destructive inspection, chemical processes, polymer and composites, analytical chemistry, and corrosion and wear.
  • You will negotiate, advise, and collaborate with all levels of officials in industry, NAVAIR, OPNAV, PMAs, etc. on aircraft programs, policies, and procedures in order to determine the impact and requirements of current and proposed initiatives.
  • You will ensure that established Materials Engineering Department and Materials Engineering Division policies and procedures are understood, implemented, and maintained throughout the Divisions.
  • You will establish and be responsible for all policies, procedures, techniques, and methods related to nondestructive evaluation and inspection engineering efforts at Fleet Readiness Center Southwest.
  • You will direct the planning of resources (e.g., personnel, equipment, facilities) to accomplish major blocks of the engineering, technical, or business endeavor.
  • You will supervise or lead a team by assigning and directing work, monitoring performance, establishing priorities and adjusting workload.
  • You will mentor or train lower level engineers and technicians in the details of performing tasks related to aircraft, engines, accessories, and related components.
